Southwark Aquatics is a competitive swimming club based in Southwark, and is the competitive arm of a single joined-up swimming programme in Southwark under the supervision of Kevin Yardley, the Director of Swimming for Southwark, combining: Learn to Swim, school swimming and competitive swimming under one umbrella ensuring that every young person that has a desire to develop their swimming skills will be given the best opportunity to do so regardless of age or ability. By combining all of this activity under one programme we believe that we are uniquely placed to provide a full range of opportunities to swimmers. Southwark Aquatics, the competitive arm of the swimming programme, catering for those swimmers who have already finished the Learn to Swim programme through to ASA Level 12, and want to continue to develop their skills so that they can compete - both within the club and with other clubs through out the year. On average, all of our swimming squads have the opportunity to swim in at least one gala a month, and at peak times during the year, even more. We are committed to providing the best quality coaches and training and have unparalleled training time in the afternoon and early evening hours available to our members. We currently have just over 150 members of varying ages and abilities, from six years old through to Master swimmers who train with our performance squad.
Here is a recent picture of our performance squad and members of our competitive development squad just before the first round of the National Swimming League, division 2 held October 11, 2008 at Clissold Leisure Centre. We competed with a 32 strong member team - who did their very best on the evening taking second. To find out more about the results go to the gala results section of the site.
First and foremost, Southwark Aquatics is a family-oriented team. We have great support from parents and extended family members who ensure that the team is well supported at competitions, and during practice sessions. We believe that it is important to have an active social calendar and we regularly schedule events to allow our squads and extended family members to spend time together outside of the pool. The Southwark
Aquatics coaching staff and committee
are committed to assisting in the
development all of swimmers to reach their
